Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Luizinho Faleiro, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Indian state of Goa, has resigned from his position with three years and seven months still remaining in his term. The resignation was accepted by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The seat left vacant by Faleiro's resignation will now be filled by a candidate nominated by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party.
Sources within the TMC have suggested that Faleiro was under pressure from party leadership to resign due to his prolonged absence from party affairs in Goa. The TMC was reportedly upset with Faleiro after he declined to contest the upcoming 2022 assembly polls against Vijay Sardesai of the Goa Forward Party in the Fatorda constituency.
Faleiro's resignation has been met with surprise and speculation in the Indian political circles, as he still had a significant portion of his term left. His departure could have implications for the TMC's position in the Rajya Sabha, as well as for the political landscape in Goa.
The reasons for Faleiro's resignation are yet to be fully understood, but it is clear that his departure will have significant consequences for the TMC and for Goa politics as a whole.
